What Is a Metric?

A Metric is a data point—like a sum, percentage, or count—pulled from a record field. You can optionally compare it to a target, visualize it with a progress bar, or highlight it using color-coded thresholds.

How to Define a Metric

1. Go to:
   Setup > Custom Metadata Types > Metric > Manage Records

2. Create a New Metric and configure:

   • objectApiName__c: e.g., Opportunity

   • valueField__c: Field to evaluate, e.g., Amount

   • targetValue__c or targetField__c: Static or dynamic goal

   • comparisonValue__c or comparisonField__c: Optional delta

   • formatType__c: Choose Currency, Percentage, or Number

   • breakPointXPercent__c: Define thresholds for status indicators

   • icon__c: SLDS icon name (e.g., standard:opportunity)

   • title__c, subtitle__c, footer__c: Optional text overrides

3. Save the Metric
   Once saved, it’s ready to be used anywhere a metric widget is placed.

Metric Breakpoints

Metrics support visual thresholds using color-coded breakpoints. These breakpoints define what progress range (as a percentage of a target) should trigger specific colors and labels.

Configuration Steps:

1. Create Color records in Color__mdt (e.g., Red = #ef4444, Green = #22c55e)

2. In Metric__mdt, define:

   • breakPoint1Percent__c: e.g., 0.25

   • breakPoint1Label__c: "At Risk"

   • breakPoint1Color__c: Lookup to "Red"

   • breakPoint2Percent__c: e.g., 0.75

   • breakPoint2Label__c: "On Track"

   • breakPoint2Color__c: Lookup to "Green"

Outcome:

• Below 25% = Red bar + “At Risk” label

• Above 75% = Green bar + “On Track” label

• In between = default styling

What Is a Metric Group?

A Metric Group allows you to bundle multiple metrics into a responsive grid layout, displayed together as a dashboard section.

Use it to show related KPIs together—like revenue, win rate, and deal size on an opportunity dashboard.

How to Create a Metric Group

1. Go to:
   Setup > Custom Metadata Types > Metric Group > Manage Records

2. Create a Metric Group and provide:

   • Developer Name: e.g., Sales_Performance

   • Title, Description: Shown above the group (optional)

3. Associate Metrics with the Group:

   • Go to MetricGroupMetric__mdt > Manage Records

   • Create records linking each Metric to your Metric Group

   • Set the display order__c to control layout
