Precursive Templates Final Check
Your templates are now ready to be imported and all that is left to do before you can build your Board Type is to check if they contain any errors that could prevent them from running in the system. Luckily Precursive can do that for us!
In this lesson you will upload your templates in Precursive and ask the system to validate them. We will discuss what are the most common errors we tend to come across and see how we can solve them. Let’s start from the first step.
How to Upload your Templates
In order to upload your Templates in Precursive, follow these steps:
-
Make sure you save your spreadsheets in a .csv format
-
Look for the ‘Precursive Templates’ tab in your app launcher
-
Click ‘New’ on the right hand side top corner of the page
Here you can upload one template at a time:
-
Select List or Task Template at the top
-
Name your Template - it’s useful to use similar names for Task & List Templates that you are going to build a new Board Type with
-
Mark it as ‘Active’
-
Add a ‘Description’ of the internal workflow it reflects
-
Upload your .csv file
-
Save
You can repeat the same process to upload the other template, making sure to select the right option in the Step 1 above.
How to Validate your Templates
Once you have uploaded your Templates, you will need to validate them to make sure they don’t contain any errors. Here’s how you can do that:
-
Click on the Template Name to open the record
-
Scroll down to find the button ‘Validate’ on the right hand side
-
Let the system work its magic and check the Templates for you
Most Common Validation Errors
You may be born a Templates-Wizard and your Templates will be validated on the first try, but if that’s not the case - don’t worry! It’s not uncommon for it to take a few attempts before getting it right. There is a lot of information that goes into your templates and a simple spelling mistake can cause the system to alert you that they are not 100% right. So, what can you do?
First of all, you can use the error message that the system gives you as a reference to understand what the issue may be.
In this case, for example, the names for the Stages I have entered in my Task Template don’t match the picklist values of the Stage field in the Salesforce setup. It may be that I forgot to add them altogether or it may just be a spelling mistake that the system picked up straight away.
This is the first one of the most common errors you will come across:
-
Missing or misspelled Picklist Values for Stages and Roles
-
Missing or misspelled Milestones and Categories in Precursive
-
Template Columns named incorrectly
In the sections below you can find information and relevant links to learn how to fix each of these errors.
Missing or misspelled Picklist Values for Stages and Roles
Missing or misspelled Milestones and Categories in Precursive
To create new Precursive Task Categories and Milestones, you don't need to work on the SF setup. It can all be done in Precursive!
-
Follow this guide on how to
Create & Manage Task Categories to add your new Categories if you haven’t done it yet and double-check the new entries match the spelling in your Task Template.
-
Template Columns named incorrectly
You can double check the name of each field label in the SF Setup:
-
In Precursive, click on the gear icon on the top right to access SF Setup
-
Click on the Tab ‘Object Manager’ and search ‘Precursive Task’
-
In ‘Precursive Task’, go to ‘Field & Relationships’
You need to make sure that the names of the columns of your Task Template match the respective field label in the ‘Field Label’ column.
