Adding Metrics to Lightning Pages and Communities

Once you've created Metrics and Metric Groups using Custom Metadata, you can surface them in Salesforce by adding them to Lightning Pages and Experience Cloud sites. This guide explains how to add and configure these components using Lightning App Builder and Experience Builder.

Lightning App Builder

For Record Pages (e.g., Opportunity, Account)

  1. Go to Setup > Object Manager and choose the object.

  2. Open Lightning Record Pages and click Edit or Create New.

  3. In the Components panel:

    • Drag in the Metric or Metric Group component.

  4. In the properties panel:

    • Set the Metric Developer Name or Metric Group Developer Name (matches Custom Metadata DeveloperName)

    • The record ID is populated automatically—no config needed.

  5. Click Save and Activate.

For Home Pages (e.g., Sales Dashboard)

  1. Go to Setup > Lightning App Builder and open the desired Home Page.

  2. Drag the Metric or Metric Group component onto the canvas.

  3. In the properties:

    • Set the Metric Developer Name or Group Name

    • Provide a static Record ID if needed (e.g., a summary record)

  4. Click Save and Activate.

Experience Cloud Sites

  1. Open Experience Builder for your site.

  2. Navigate to the page where you want metrics displayed.

  3. Drag the Metric or Metric Group component from the Custom Components section.

  4. In the right-hand panel:

    • Set the Metric or Group Developer Name

    • Set the Record ID if needed (often based on logged-in user's account or a custom route parameter)

  5. Click Publish.

Layout and Style Options

Metric Group:

  • Columns: 1–6 (for layout grid)

  • Show Group Title: Show/hide title

  • Show Group Description: Show/hide description

  • Style: Visual style (Thin, Regular, Bold, Thick)

Single Metric:

  • Show Label: Show/hide metric title

  • Style:  Visual style (Thin, Regular, Bold, Thick)

Tips for Placement

  • Place single metrics (e.g., health score) above record forms for visibility.

  • Use metric groups in a multi-column layout on dashboards or portals.

  • For home pages or communities, pair metrics with record lists to provide insight + data access.
