Cloning a project in your project management software can be a great way to save time and effort when starting a new project. By using the clone functionality, you can quickly create a project template or baseline that can be used as a starting point for future projects. This can be particularly useful when working on similar projects or when using a consistent project structure.

Project Templates are added as options for the team to select when they Clone a Project Template from an Opportunity. They can decide what information should be copied into the new project (Phases, Activity Categories, Participants, Bookings, Assigned Resources and Expense Categories) and quickly build their baseline. This can save a lot of time and effort when working on similar opportunities.

⚠️ This functionality needs to be configured by a Salesforce Admin. Please see Configure Precursive Projects Cloning Functionality for more information.

Also please note that in Precursive, you can use 2 different types of Templates to standardize your Projects:

1. Task Templates - in Precursive OBX or OBX+PSX run in Managed Mode (Task-based resourcing). 
2. Project Templates - (covered in this article) you can follow the steps below if you are using PSX only or OBX+PSX but you create your Precursive Boards separately from your Phases. You can turn any Precursive Project into a Template you can use when creating new Projects from Opportunities. You can copy Project Phases, Activity Categories, Participants, Bookings, Assigned Resources and Expense Categories, but not Board Records linked to that Project Phases.

How to Create a Project Template

You can turn any project into a template by ticking the 'Is Template Project' checkbox on a Project Record. 

1. Navigate to the Project that you want to turn into a template
2. Edit the 'Details' tab
3. Find the 'Is Template Project' field and tick that checkbox
