What is Precursive AI Insights?

Precursive AI Insights automatically reviews your Salesforce data and generates personalized coaching insights. These insights help you:

• Understand the current status of your deals, accounts, or other records
• Identify risks and opportunities you might have missed
• Get AI-powered recommendations for next steps
• Stay informed without manually reviewing every record

How Can I View Insights?

There are two ways to access your AI-generated insights:

1. Precursive AI Component on Record Pages

The Precursive AI Component can be added to any record page (such as Opportunities or Accounts). When you open a record, you'll see the most recent AI insight displayed directly on the page.

Features:

• View insights without leaving the record
• Switch between different Insight Templates types using the dropdown (if multiple are available)
• Refresh to generate a new, up-to-date insights
• Download the context data to share with a general purpose LLM (e.g. ChatGPT) for more open ended questions

2. Email Digests

AI insights can also be delivered to your inbox on a schedule. Your administrator configures which records are included, the recipients, and how often emails are sent.

Insight Templates

An Insight Template is the main configuration that defines what records the AI should analyze and who should receive the insights. Think of it as the "what" and "who" of your insight.

For example, an Insight Template might specify:

• Analyze all open Opportunities over $50,000
• Send insights to the Opportunity Owner

Rules

Rules tell the AI what information to gather and how to analyze it. Each Insight Template can have multiple rules that work together.

For example, an Opportunity insight might include:

• Rule 1: Analyze the deal details and stage
• Rule 2: Review recent activities and call recordings
• Rule 3: Check related contacts and their engagement

Rules are processed in order, and each contributes context to the final AI insight.

Context Sources

Context Sources are reusable building blocks that define how to gather specific types of data. They use Salesforce Flows to collect information. Once created, a Context Source can be used by multiple Rules across different Insight Templates.

Example Context Sources:

• "Recent Tasks and Events" - Gathers activity history for any record
• "Related Contacts" - Collects contact information linked to accounts
• "Opportunity Products" - Retrieves line items on deals

Note: Context Sources are typically created and maintained by your Salesforce Administrator. As a business user, you'll select from available Context Sources when creating Rules. Example Use Cases

Opportunity Coaching for Sales Reps

Goal: Help sales reps get AI-powered coaching on their active deals.

Setup:

• Source Object: Opportunity
• Filter: IsClosed = false AND Amount > 10000
• Recipient: Record Owner

Rules:

• Deal overview with prompt: "Summarize the deal status, amount, and stage progression"
• Recent activities with prompt: "Highlight any gaps in engagement or overdue follow-ups"
• Stakeholder analysis with prompt: "Assess contact engagement and identify missing decision-makers"

Result: Each rep receives personalized coaching on their deals, identifying risks and next steps.

Account Health Monitoring

Goal: Alert account managers to accounts that may need attention.

Setup:

• Source Object: Account
• Filter: Type = 'Customer' AND LastActivityDate < LAST_N_DAYS:30
• Recipient: Account Owner

Rules:

• Account overview with prompt: "Summarize account health based on recent engagement"
• Open opportunities with prompt: "Identify any stalled or at-risk opportunities"
• Support cases with prompt: "Flag any unresolved issues or escalations"

Result: Account managers receive early warnings about accounts needing attention.

Creating an Insight Template

This section walks through creating a complete Insight Template with Rules.

Step 1: Create the Insight Template

1. Go to the App Launcher in Salesforce
2. Search for Insight Templates
3. Click New
4. Fill in the fields across each tab (see below)
5. Click Save

Key decisions:

• Which object do you want to analyze? (Opportunity, Account, Lead, etc.)
• Which records should be included? (Define your filter criteria)
• Who should receive the insights? (Usually the record owner)

Insight Template Fields

Define the key information and overall settings for your AI Insight.

Record Source

Define which records will be included in the insight.

Schedule

Define when and whether insights should be generated on a schedule.

Email Recipients

Define who will receive the insight emails.

Step 2: Select Context Sources

Before adding Rules, confirm which Context Sources are available. Context Sources define how to gather data using Salesforce Flows and are typically set up by your Salesforce Administrator.

Common Context Sources you might use:

• Recent Tasks and Events
• Related Contacts
• Opportunity Products or Line Items
• Open Support Cases

If you need a Context Source that doesn't exist, contact your Salesforce Administrator. They can create new Context Sources using the companion guide: Building Flows for Context Sources.

Step 3: Add Rules to the Template

1. From the Insight Template record, navigate to the Rules related list
2. Click New
3. Fill in the Rule fields (see below)
4. Click Save
5. Repeat for additional rules

• Be specific about what insights you want
• Tell the AI what to look for (risks, opportunities, gaps, trends)
• Specify the tone or format if needed (e.g., "Provide 2-3 bullet points")

Before enabling scheduled runs:

1. Use the Validate Filter action to see which records match your criteria
2. Use the Preview action to generate a sample insight
3. Review the output and adjust Rules or Prompt Instructions as needed

Testing and Monitoring

Previewing Matching Records

Before running insights, you can preview which records match your template's criteria.

To preview:

1. Navigate to your Insight Template record
2. Click the Validate Filter action button
3. Review the results

The preview shows:

• Total count of matching records
• List of records with their names
• The recipient for each record
• Any active filters (Recent Changes Only, Record Limit)
• The query being used to find records

This helps you verify the template is configured correctly before processing.

Testing an Insight

Generate a sample insight without affecting scheduled runs.

To test:

1. Navigate to your Insight Template record
2. Click the Preview action button
3. Choose your test mode:
   • Use Filter Criteria: Test with records matching the template's normal filters
   • Select Specific Record: Pick a single record to test with
4. Enter the email address to receive the test insight
5. Click Test

The test insight will be sent to the specified email, allowing you to review the AI output before enabling scheduled runs.

Monitoring Insight Executions and Results

Insight Executions are records created each time insights are generated (scheduled or manual). They help you monitor system activity.

To view executions:

1. Navigate to the Insight Template
2. Find executions from the Recent Executions List
3. Click into an execution to see related Insight Results

Insight Results store the AI-generated insights for individual records.

Tips for reviewing results:

• Check the Status field to ensure processing completed successfully
• Review the Salience Score - higher scores indicate more important insights
• If a result failed, check the Error Details for troubleshooting

• Download the attached context file to see exactly what data was sent to the AI

To use Precursive AI Insights, users need the appropriate permission set assigned:

• Precursive AI Insights Admin: Full access to create and manage Insight Templates, Rules, and Context Sources
• Precursive AI Insights User: View insights on record pages and receive email digests

Frequently Asked Questions

How often are insights generated?

This depends on how you have configured each Insight Template. Common schedules include daily or weekly, but insights can also be generated on-demand using the  Precursive AI Components refresh button.

Can I customize what Precursive AI focuses on?

The focus is determined by the Rules and their Prompt Instructions. If you'd like different types of insights then experiment by adjusting the prompt instructions or creating new rules.

Why don't I see the  Precursive AI Component on my records?

The Precursive AI Component must be added to record pages by an administrator. Additionally, you need the Precursive AI Insights User permission set assigned.

How current is the data in my insights?

Insights are generated at a specific point in time. The date is displayed with each insight. For the most current analysis, use the refresh button in the Precursive AI Component.

What does the Salience Score mean?

The AI assigns a salience score from 0-100 indicating how noteworthy the insight is. Higher scores suggest more significant findings that warrant attention. Low scores may indicate stable records with no major changes or concerns.
