Product Modules

As we combined all our Products into a single, unified application, we took the opportunity to reorganize our offerings and update our labels to: Core Platform, with add-on Modules. Below is a summary and visual of the changes:

• RCO (Resource Capacity Optimization) is now simply Resource Management 
• PSX (Professional Services Experience) is split into Revenue Management and Billing
• OBX has been entirely rebuilt as Project Management and Customer Workspace

How are Licenses affected? 

• PSX Licenses map to the "Revenue Management" module.
• RCO Licenses map to the "Resource Management" module.
• OBX map to the "Project Management" module.

Simplified Labels

We have simplified the language we use to describe different areas of the platform. The table below indicates the labels we have changed. 

Project Categories

You can now choose a Project Category to define the delivery method of a Project or Phase (similar to OBX Board Type functionality). You can configure the Project Category to set default values for a number of fields, including those pertaining to Budget, Rate Cards, or Owner Queues.  When creating a new Phase, it will default to the Project Category assigned to the Project, however it can be deselected and/or changed if needed.

Resource Management

Booking Mode

Booking Mode (previously named Independent Mode) has been improved; bookings are now automatically split when timesheets are submitted, allowing the remainder of the booking to be easily adjusted or reassigned. As Participants submit hours against Tasks, Bookings will be recalculated, spreading equally the remaining hours (which replace the initial planned hours) across the remaining days. Additionally, users will have the ability to manipulate the remaining hours manually to reflect the remaining effort needed.

Task Mode

Task Mode replaces OBX’s Managed Mode, where the Precursive Plan would only reflect the effort of the Task Owner. With Precursive 2.0, the effort of all Task Contributors will be reflected in the Resource Plan, eliminating the need to create subtasks to capture the effort of each contributor.

Notice that all Task Contributors above ^ appear in the Resource Plan below.

Project Management

The OBX Board has been replaced with a Phase-level Kanban and Gantt. While OBX has both Board Members and Participants, Precursive 2.0 has simplified this by eliminating Board Members in favor of one label (Participants) to encapsulate the functionality of both Participants and Board Members. When adding a contributor on OBX, you had to choose User and Role. If you chose the wrong one it would create a duplicate Board Team Member. With 2.0, you simply choose from one of the Phase Participants.

OBX tab separated into Kanban and Gantt

We have removed the OBX tab from the primary navigation bar and introduced a tab each for Kanban and Gantt. Kanban replaces the OBX Board view, and Gantt replaces the Plan view. You can use these to search across Projects to quickly access the information you would have previously found on the OBX Board. 

The OBX Table View is now a Task List Component that can be embedded in Phases and Tasks with two available display modes; Table and Tile. E.g. it will be possible to embed a Task List on the Home page of each user so that they can see their Tasks.  

Logging Time

Precursive 2.0 offers users flexibility around logging time. Users can log time against individual Tasks in the Kanban, Gantt, or Tasks tabs. Alternatively, users can navigate to My Precursive, where they can log time against the Phase, individual Tasks, or Task Categories (previously Activity Categories). Bespoke Task Categories can be set up in advance to capture time for generic tasks, such as meetings. Users can now easily log time to multiple days from the Phase or My Precursive.

All timesheet data is now stored in one place, resulting in improved reporting. All information entered in the timesheet is captured and available in a single report. 

External Sharing & Customer Workspace

External Sharing has been reintroduced using Experience Cloud which means that much of the functionality available for Customer Workspace is now available to External Sharing. With the Digital Experiences Builder, you can create Pages, add company branding, and configure the layout by including the components you want to share. Share a link with Customers to grant Read-Only access records (Projects/Phases + Lists/Tasks/Insights/Health) with no need for login credentials. Customer Workspace now also has the capacity to share Project Health & Insights. 

Health & Insights 

Health & Insights, previously only available to OBX users, are now included in the Core Platform. We have added a Health Rating icon in the Project header to improve visibility. 

You can now easily log and review Issues and Risks at the Project and Phase level, while previously this functionality was only available at the Board level. Users can choose whether to automatically apply Project-level Health & Insights to all Phases, or to add information to each Phase separately.

Task Milestones

For those using Milestones for tracking Time to Value, the functionality remains the same but now found at the Phase level. 

Project Budgets

Project Budget is a newly-introduced feature that allows you to manage and track separate Budgets within a single Phase or across multiple Phases in a Project. Project Budget solves the challenge of tracking a Phase’s Budget where changes are made through the course of the Project, e.g. Chance Requests, Upsells, Rework etc. Products can be  set up with Task Templates to allow budgets to be created for each Product on an Opportunity and how Phases are created on the Project

Queues

We now offer more flexibility around the Owner of a Project or Phase. You can choose between assigning it to a User, or to a Queue. This is particularly valuable when you don’t yet know who to assign the work to. You can create bespoke Queues to suit your business needs. 

Permissions & Licenses

There is a separate permission set for each user type (Super User, Standard, Individual Contributor, Read-Only) for the Core Platform and each of the Modules, (Project Management, Project Accounting, Billing, and Resource Management). Assigning these standardized permission sets to users will mitigate confusion around Licensing. 

Precursive HQ

Precursive HQ has been revamped in order to:

• match the feature distribution across Modules and include all settings for features migrated from OBX/Connect
• resemble the Salesforce Setup page
• feature a Quick Find search field
• ensure that users only see Objects for which they have Read Permissions access
