Customer Workspace is a secure, authenticated portal for your customers to collaborate on their own delivery Projects - reviewing status, marking Tasks complete, and staying informed without needing an internal Salesforce login.

How Customers Use Customer Workspace

From Customer Workspace, your customers see Projects they're assigned to, with Tasks that are accessible to them. Unlike External Sharing, they authenticate with their own login and can update status and add notes directly on Tasks shared with them - and where Chatter and Files are enabled on your site, they can comment and attach documentation too - a working collaboration space rather than a read-only view.

Considerations Before Enabling Customer Workspace

Customer Workspace is not enabled by default and must be set up by a Salesforce Admin. Please read the following before enabling it:

  • Customer Workspace requires BOTH a Salesforce Community License and a Precursive Community License.
    • If you already have an existing Salesforce Experience Site with licensed external users, you can purchase a Precursive Community License to extend this functionality to Customer Workspace.
    • If you don't already have a Salesforce Community License, these can be purchased directly from Precursive combined with a Precursive Community License.
  • Precursive supports the Customer Community License Type. Customer Community Plus licenses implement a more complex data-sharing model not currently supported for this pattern.
  • Customer Workspace users cannot be set as the Owner of a Project or Phase - only internal Salesforce users can hold that role.
  • Enabling Customer Workspace involves sharing data with people outside your organization. Follow Salesforce's guidance to secure your Experience Cloud site.

Recent Update: Customer Contacts as Participants

Customer Workspace now supports assigning a Salesforce Contact directly as a Participant on a Task or Project, without needing a linked Resource record first - see "Customer Contacts as Participants" for the full mechanism and what it changes.
