Precursive comes with a set of out-of-the box Reports & Dashboards. We always recommend checking the Precursive Boards - Reports & Dashboards first to see if there is a report that you can edit to meet your business requirements. If not, you can use Precursive Report Types to build your own reports. Let's see an example here.
 
Scenario: The VP of Professional Services wants to report on the total time spent on projects this quarter and determine if they are spending more time on deliveries than estimated.
Business Question: What is the total time spent overall (on all projects) this quarter? What was the total estimated time VS actual time spent?

Time logs are recorded at the Task level in Precursive OBX, not at Board level. To see how much time is being spent on a Board, we need to look at the total time logged on its tasks. Therefore, we can use the 'Precursive Tasks' report type to answer this question and then group the tasks by Board to calculate the total time spent on each Board.

Building your Report

Navigate to the 'Reports' tab, click 'New Report' and select the 'Precursive Tasks' report type to start building your report. Then follow the instructions below:
1. Set Filters:
  • All Precursive Tasks
  • Start Date = Current FQ or CQ
  • Time Spent (Hours) greater than 0 (to exclude tasks that had no Time spent)
2. Add the following Columns:
  • Board: Name
  • Name (Name of the Task)
  • Time Spent (Hours)
  • Estimated Hours
3. Group the data by 'Board: Name'
4. Hide Row Counts and Detail Rows

​Build 3 Dashboard Components

You can now use this report to build 3 different dashboard components:
  1. Total Time Spent per Board This FQ: Create a horizontal Bar Chart with Board Name on the Y-Axis, Sum of Time Spent (Hours) on the X-Axis and add a measure to also display Sum of Estimated Hours underneath it on the X-Axis.User-added image
  2. Estimated Time for this FQ: Create a metric chart to display Sum of Estimated Hours as a number. User-added image
  3. Total Time Spent This FQ: Create a metric chart to display Sum of Time Spent (Hours) as a number. User-added image
