About

By enabling this feature, you can then select as 'Predecessor Task' of a Tasks within a Child/Parent Board, any of the Tasks of its Parent/Child Board(s) and all the other boards related to it. Let's see how we can do that and how it works.

Note - Each Precursive Board can contain a max of 500 Tasks. In a Board Hierarchy, you could have for example 10 boards containing 500 tasks, for a total of 5,000 tasks. When Cross Board Dependencies are enabled, you can only have a max of 500 tasks across the whole Board Hierarchy.

Enable Cross Board Dependencies

Cross Board Dependencies need to be enabled by ticking the relevant checkbox when creating or editing the Boards of a Board Hierarchy (please see Create and Edit a Precursive Board and Create a Board Hierarchy for more information). Make sure you tick the checkbox for both the Child/Children and Parent Boards within your hierarchy for this feature to work.

How Cross Board Dependencies work

After enabling Cross Board Dependencies for all the Boards within your Board Hierarchy, when you add a new Task to any of the Boards, you will be able to select as their Predecessor any of the Tasks within your Board Hierarchy.

This feature can be used for example to have the completion of the last Task of an Onboarding Project Board trigger the first Tasks of a Customer Success Project for the first year of the customer's lifecycle.

For a visual demonstration, let's create a Parent Board called "Customer's Name - Onboarding Plan" and relate it to a Child Board called "Customer's Name - Success Plan". After enabling Cross Board Dependencies as illustrated above for both our Parent and Child Boards, we are now able to select the last Task of our Parent Board ('Post-Launch Review Session') as Predecessor Task of the first Task of our Child Board ('Success Roadmap Review').

From the Plan View, we can now clearly see the Time Dependency we have created between the last and first Task of these two related boards.
