Custom Labels turn any field (including a lookup to another record) into a label on the Task Card. Your SF Admin or Precursive Super Users can create custom fields for Precursive Tasks to highlight important information and use Custom Labels to define how that information is made visible on the Task Card (including icon, color and the label itself). The Custom Label is not like a Category (Precursive Task Categories) that can be added to a Task by editing it: Custom Labels define how a specific field is displayed on the Tasks.

Custom Labels could reference a standard or custom field on your Task or even a standard or custom field of a related record. You could have a picklist field for the type of Task, or having a lookup to a custom object for example - you could have Tasks linked to Contacts, Account or Locations which is where said Tasks need to happen. Your SF Admin or Precursive Superuser can create a custom label for a lookup field and choose which field from that record will display as the label (e.g. the name, address, or city). Please see Create & Manage Custom Labels for more information.

To have your Custom Labels show up on a task care, you first have to set them up. Please see Create & Manage Custom Labels for more information. Once they've been set up, labels are going to be applied automatically when the lookup on the task is populated.

For example, if the custom label has been created for the Contact name, that will appear on the Task card when a contact is assigned to that task and Task Collaborator. 

In a similar way, if the custom label is created for the Milestone field, the Milestone name will appear on a task card when that task is assigned a milestone.

This is a Task Card and 'Wynne Gill' is a Custom Label. That shows us that the Task is associated with a Contact. You can click on the Label to view more details about this Contact the expandable right-had side pane and you can edit them from there. You can also use Custom Labels as filters to pull only the Tasks linked to a specific Contact for example.
